International Students

Taunton’s College welcomes applications from International students who want to study in Southampton.  International students are completely integrated into the college, having lessons with local students and having the same choice of courses (see our Courses section). Our students are mostly aged 16-18 and the vast majority of our courses are taught during the day, on a full-time basis.

We regret that we are unable to offer resettlement or accommodation-finding services.

Who qualifies?

To study A levels you will need to have passed the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) at certificate level 5.5 or above. This test is widely available in most countries.

We also require that students are in the country and able to start attending lessons by the end of September.  (All our courses are at least a year long and run from September to July).

English provision

If you are unable to achieve the IELTS 5.5 English standard (see above) then we advise you to enrol on a programme of intensive English before commencing your studies with us.  We do not currently offer this programme at Taunton’s but can recommend other providers in the Southampton area, on request.

How to apply

If you have been legally resident in the EEA (European Economic Area) for three years, or you have a British passport or indefinite leave to remain in the UK you do not need a Student Visa to study here. In that case simply fill in an application form and we will invite you for an interview. In a small number of cases you may still need to pay tuition fees – see below for details for details.

If you are from outside the EEA and do need a student visa, please follow this process :

  1. Use our on-line application form to submit an application.

  2. We will then send you a checklist of things we need which includes :

    • A copy of your passport

    • Your IELTS certificate

    • Your exam results, as soon as you have them

    • A NARIC certificate of equivalence explaining how your results compare to UK qualifications (see www.naric.org.uk)

    • Two references, including one from your school

    • A deposit of the first year’s fee in full – this will be returned if your application is not successful.

  3. We may want to conduct a telephone interview with you.

  4. If we are able to offer you a place, we will submit a request with the UK Border Agency to issue you a CAS (Certificate of Acceptance for Studies).

  5. If that request is approved, the UK Border Agency will send the CAS to you, enabling you to apply for a student visa. You need to allow several weeks for the process.

  6. As soon as your Visa is granted you need to let us know and confirm your start date.

Application deadline

Due to the time it takes to complete this process, the deadline for us to receive your application is 31st July 2012.

Tuition fees

Fees for International Students enrolling in September 2012 are £5,550.00 per year, payable at the start of each year. See our Tuition Fees page for more details.
