Sixth Form Academy

Sixth form academy header
Every year Taunton's College attracts a significant number of students with high GCSE grades. Often these students have an ambition to study at the most demanding universities including Oxford and Cambridge. At the same time, gaining admission to these universities is becoming increasingly difficult since more students are achieving top grades at A Level. Sometimes students with ability don't have the confidence to succeed, while others may believe their social background is a barrier to reaching the top.
The Taunton's Sixth Form Academy has been developed to meet the particular needs of high achieving students in and around Southampton. It aims to foster confidence, ambition, academic rigour, appropriate study habits and to develop the whole person. All students offered a place in the academy will be expected to maintain a challenging programme which combines academic disciplines with opportunities for sports, music, voluntary work and other broadening and creative activities. The academy seeks to widen young people's understanding of political, international, cultural, spiritual and moral issues.

So if you want an education of this sort please visit the college at our Open Evenings and make an application. We will discuss choices with you at interview.
  • you will be tutored with other students in order that we can address your particular university needs more effectively
  • you will have a busy timetable of taught lessons each week
  • you will be expected to take part in enrichment courses of your choice (music, sport, Duke of Edinburgh Award Schemes etc)
