As a Taunton’s College student you are actively encouraged to participate in one or more of a variety of team and individual sports. You will have the opportunity to train for and compete in regular fixtures, cup competitions and tournaments or, if you would rather, you can choose to play more recreationally.
In addition to a traditional range of opportunities in sport at college you can apply for a place in our Academy of Sport which is aimed at high level performers in Basketball, Cricket, Football, Netball, Rugby and Trampolining. You will have the opportunity to combine your academic programme while accessing high quality coaching in your major sport speciality. 
 
As a member of the Academy of Sport you will gain access to:
  • On average 4.5 hours of elite coaching and match play in your specialist sport every week
  • An opportunity to train among and work with the top 20 performers in the college
  • Experienced support with applications for TASS and scholarships in the USA
  • Advice from the Southampton Football Club physiotherapist Phil Wilson
  • Video analysis to support individual performer development
  • Free use of the onsite fitness suite
  • Support with gaining a coaching, leadership and/or officiating qualification in your specialist sport
Elite athletes specialising in other sports can also apply to gain access to the Academy’s support network. Please make yourself known to the Academy Manager, Jo Bull.
 
The Academy of Sport has excellent facilities including a sports hall, fitness suite, football pitch, training pitch, outdoor courts and an all-weather court. In addition, Academy students may visit other sporting facilities, including Southampton Football Club’s training ground, to broaden their experiences.
 
Many of our Academy of Sport students progress to perform at county, regional and national level, with many of the college teams representing the south-east region at the British Colleges Finals in Loughborough each year. The Academy actively seeks sport scholarship opportunities for our elite athletes at the top Universities in the UK, including Loughborough and Bath, and has supported a number of students with successful scholarship applications to McKendree College and Florida International University in the USA.
