Summary
This course is intended for students with a genuine interest in painting, drawing, photography, image manipulation and animation. It will introduce you to new skills and techniques in preparation for AS level courses such as Fine Art, Textiles, Photography, Critical and Contextual Studies, Graphical Communication, Media Studies and Film Studies or the BTEC National Subsidiary Diploma in creative Media Production (Interactive Media). This practical skill-based course will follow set assignments to enable you to research artists, photographers and the media industry. You will annotate your own coursework and critically analyse the outcomes.
Requirements
You will need:
- A desire to progress on to Art, Design, Media and Film related courses
- To do work outside lesson time to complete your coursework.
- Good time management skills to meet deadlines.
- A digital camera is beneficial.
Course Content
Graphic Design
On this course you will plan and edit your own creative projects, such as typography, CD covers and live briefs. You will research and learn about technical terms to improve your knowledge. You will also produce a variety of creative projects and produce a series of graphic inspired work using photography and up-to-date software.
Painting and Drawing
You will learn basic drawing skills and work with mixed media. You will be introduced to the work of a variety of artists in order to make personal interpretations of themes in Art. You will build up a visual practical portfolio for assessment at the end of the course. Most of your work will be done on study sheets and in a diary sketchbook. There will be visits to local and national galleries for first hand experience.
Photography
You will be set a series of practical assignments and will research the work of other photographers. You will build up a visual practical portfolio for assessment at the end of the course. Most of your work will be done on study sheets and in a diary workbook.
What else do I need to know?
There will be a small charge for materials such as workbooks. You are encouraged to purchase basic materials, ideally a digital camera, 1GB memory stick and photographic paper. Visits to local and national galleries are encouraged for first-hand experience.
This course is designed as part of foundation course, studied together with GCSE Maths, GCSE English with an additional GCSE or single BTEC. Successfully completing this foundation course together with teacher recommendation will enable you to progress on to level 3 Art, Design, Media and Film courses.
