Summary
This qualification replaces the two year full time level 2 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Childcare and Education. It is for those who wish to work in the Children and Young People’s workforce, and will cover a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas. The course covers the age range from birth to 19-year-olds and will provide progression onto the level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce.
Requirements
You will need:
A minimum of four GCSEs at Grade D or above including English Language and good communication skills. At interview you will be expected to demonstrate a genuine interest in working with children and a commitment to study.
Course Content
A placement in a school, pre-school, nursery or other setting appropriate to the course which will be found for you by our work experience co-ordinator.
In your lessons you will study a wide range of topics to do with children and young people including:
- Communication in different settings
- Equality and inclusion
- Personal development
- Supporting children and young peoples development
- Safeguarding children and young peoples welfare
- Supporting positive behaviour
- Working in partnership with different services
- Illnesses and basic first aid
What else do I need to know?
CACHE has strict guidelines regarding attendance and as a national requirement a CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) check is also carried out on all students before they start the course. You will also be required to complete a Health Screening form and to provide two references, one of which is a character reference and one is from someone who has seen you working with children. You will be expected to buy a Childhood Studies polo sweatshirt to wear in work placement.
You will be taught by a specialist team of tutors from health, teaching and nursery management backgrounds. Teaching takes place in specialist rooms with facilities for practical work related to the course and computers to support your assignment work. You will experience a variety of study methods including discussions, group work, practical work, watching videos/dvds, visiting speakers, note taking and individual research. Up to date specialist books and periodicals are available in the base room and library.
