Summary
This full-time, one year vocational course will give you an insight into the world of business. A BTEC Extended Certificate is a practical, work-related course. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
Requirements
At least one of the following:
- a Merit grade or above in a level 1 qualification in a related subject
- 4 GCSEs at grades D-E (including Maths or English Language at grade D or above)
- related work experience
- other related Level 1 or 2 qualifications.
because:
you will be producing a portfolio of coursework assignments through a variety of assessment methods which include written reports, presentations, groupwork, role plays and numerical work.
Course Content
The course is made up of four units. The two core units provide a general foundation, and the specialist units introduce learners to particular topics in more depth.
All students will take two core units:
- Business Purposes
- Business Organisations
And two of the following specialist units such as :
- Specialist Relations
- The Marketing Plan
- Starting a small business
- People in organisations
The assignments are internally assessed and graded by the teachers. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all learners who successfully complete all units. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction.
What else do I need to know?
A BTEC Extended Certificate is equivalent to two GCSEs at grade A*- C and is taken as a full-time course.
It gives a good preparation for employment in areas such as retail, administration, customer service, finance, IT or personnel. It can also enable you to progress onto advanced courses at Taunton’s such as a National Extended Diploma in Business or IT, if you achieve at least a Merit and pass your English and Maths GCSE with at least a C grade.
You will also study BTEC WorkSkills which will help you develop crucial skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership and help you prepare for finding employment in the future.
