Summary

The level 1 Award/Certificate/Diploma gives you an understanding of the basic skills and knowledge needed to be able to care for children, which may be useful when you have your own children one day or help with friends and relatives’ children.

E and F grades at GCSE.

 

Course Content

 

For the Award students will be studying the following units:

  • Sharing learning experiences with children
  • Growth and development of young children
  • Healthy eating for families

For the Certificate students will be studying the above units plus:

  • Respecting and valuing children
  • Craft activities for young children
  • Practical health and safety with young children
  • Listening and talking
  • Self development
  • Healthy living

 

For the full diploma students will need to study the above units for the Award and Certificate, plus:

  • Musical activities for young children
  • Next steps
  • Supporting babies to play
  • Science activities for young children

What else do I need to know?

 

Each unit averages at three tasks in order to complete, and incurs credits which make up part of, or the full qualification.

There is no placement required for actually working with children but you may decide that you want to work with children in the future and complete further courses to allow this.

You will have lots of practical tasks for assessment e.g. making a poster or printing a booklet as evidence of your learning. It is very important that you keep your learner achievement logs (LOL’s) organised and up to date as they will be the proof that you have successfully completed the units.

There is no exam, the qualification is coursework only.
