Course Content

We will be studying the new AQA Science A course which leads to a single GCSE Science (Core). There are seven assessment units: six multiple-choice type papers and a practical skills internal assessment.

The modules studied are:

• Biology (a)

Human Biology

• Biology (b)

Evolution and Environment

• Chemistry (a)

Products from Rocks

• Chemistry (b)

Oils, Earth and Atmosphere

• Physics (a)

Energy and Electricity

• Physics (b)

Radiation and the Universe

Each of these modules are assessed through multiple choice papers. Two will be assessed in November, two in January and two in June.

Each module represents 12.5% of the final mark and the internally assessed practical is 25%.

The practical module is assessed through an Investigative Skills Assessment, which consists of a normal class practical followed by an externally set, internally marked test taking 45 minutes and a Practical Skills Assessment which is a teacher assessment of your practical skills throughout the course.

What else do I need to know?

Do make sure you have a genuine interest in science or a genuine need to study it as the course can be demanding.

GCSE Science (Core) alongside GCSE Science (Additional) will enable you to progress onto A level Science.
