Summary

GCSE Science (Additional) can be studied alongside GCSE Science (Core) to give you two GCSEs. It is a useful qualification for many jobs and will also allow you to progress onto any A level Science course, as is incorporates all three disciplines.

Requirements

You will need:
To have completed, or also be studying, GCSE Science (Core) to at least grade C.

Course Content

You will be studying the new AQA Science Additional course which leads to two GCSEs in Science. There are four assessment modules: three written papers and one practical skills internal assessment.

The modules studied are:

• Biology (2)

Cells and Systems

• Chemistry (2)

Molecules and their functions

• Physics (2)

Energy and Electricity

Each of these modules are assessed through short answer questions. One will be assessed in November, one in March and one in June.

Each module represents 25% of the final mark for GCSE Science (Additional) and the internally assessed practical is also worth 25%.

The practical module is assessed through an Investigative Skills Assessment, which consists of normal class practical work followed by an assessed test marked by the teacher.

What else do I need to know?

Due to the written nature of the assessments, it is important that you have a good grasp of the English language.
