Summary
This is a two-year vocational course that can be taken alongside other AS or A level subjects and is equivalent to one A level. It is a practical course where you learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands to develop a range of specialist skills and knowledge.
Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above including English Language. You must have a good level of communication skills to complete your assignments to an appropriate standard and be able to demonstrate an interest in design and computers. You must be very motivated and organised with good time management skills
because:
- you will need to be interested in design and creative media
- you will need to like watching TV, DVD’s, videos and reading newspapers, magazines etc.
- design skills will help you with layout, which will be done both by hand and using ICT
- you will have to work hard consistently throughout the two years of the course to complete all the assignments to the agreed deadlines.
Course Content
The BTEC National Certificate in Creative Media Production consists of two core units, one mandatory unit and three additional units:
Mandatory units:
- Pre production techniques for the creative media industries
- Communication skills for Creative Media Production
- Research techniques for the creative media industries
Optional units:
- Interactive media design
- Digital graphics for interactive media
- Sound in interactive media
- Motion graphics and compositing video
- Web animation for interactive media
