Summary

The GCSE Child Development course will appeal to students who are interested in working with children and families within society as part of a level 2 vocational and GCSE programme. 

Requirements

You will need:

C and D grades at GCSE.

Course Content

The qualification is split into five areas:

  • Parenthood
  • Pregnancy
  • Diet, health and care of the child
  • Development of the child
  • Support for the parent and child.

Assessment is in three parts:

  • A child study (20 hours) which is worth 40% of the final grade
  • A research task (7 hours) which is  worth 20% of the final grade
  • A written exam which is worth 40% of the final grade.

What else do I need to know?

You will need to have access to a pre-school child and their family on a regular basis for your child study (This will be carried out in your own time). You will need to be committed and organised in order to complete this course successfully within the time frame of one year.
